Win : Awesome by Nature w. The Embassy

02:33 PM

Ten years ago, The Embassy musically moved the city Gothenburg from the Swedish coast to a small island somewhere in the Caribbean or Adriatic Sea almost on their own. “Hurt“, their debut-EP Sneaky Feelings‘ opener - back then released on Dolores Recordings -, re-defined Scandinavian pop. Their later label colleagues at Service, Studio, where at that time still jamming their guitars and Air France, Lake Heartbeat, Korallreven and Pacific! should arrive not until later. What followed were by now modern classics as “It Pays To Belong“, “Stage Persona” or “Lurking From A Distance”, which received its remix orders from the hands of Tensnake.

Recently the duo became a little quieter: Last album Tacking was released by Service in 2005, last single “State ’08 by France’ Asphalt Duchess in 2009. Here the band worked with Studio’s Dan Lissvik as producer, who also joined Embassy-singer Fredrik Lindson in The Crêpes around that time. Now the latter and band-mate Torbjörn Håkansson are working on new material again and venture a trip to Berlin playing one of their very rare gigs on this Friday night in Berlin.

It should be a really intimate night-out, since the Backyard near Kreuzberg underground station Prinzenstraße is a rather small, just opened venue. And the rest of the Awesome by Nature party programme is also top-of-the-class: Stockholm’s Tony Senghore, who operates at quality addresses such as Sound Pellegrinoand Diplo’s Mad Decent, will make his Berlin debut and Lars Moston from Top Billin, Peoples Champion, The Harasser, Justlikesnow, Jon Lax and the Nordic by Nature DJs will make the German-US-American-Swedish club triangle go crazy all night as well.

Fortunately we can give away 1×2 guestlist invites among every comment, you Swedophiles leave us until tomorrow noon. As always the winner will be chosen random, so: Good luck!

Villa Closing Party

01:43 PM

Summer comes, Villa goes. Alas. Thus it’s only a little summer break, no worries! And to let you keep the latest party season at the venue as good in mind as it indeed was, the club has organized a very special farewell night.

Besides the two live acts, well-known Stadthund and Raumagent Alpha (finally here!), there will be an enormous “meat platter” DJ line-up: Donna Summer (the DJ and head of Nightshifters, Jason Forrest, of course) will be with you, everybody’s darlings from Berlin’s keinemusik label will send Rampa and Cinthie and from London and Gothenburg Oliver Rant and the Harasser are coming to town. They are accompanied by the two Berliners of choice and internationally highly reputable music experts, Glen Brady alias the fantastic Mr Wool and Greco-Roman’s Alex “Full Nelson” Waldron.

With E-Kreisel, Jan Mir (ZMF), Astma, Fresh Meat, Hagen B., Pitt & Bone, Arsen1Computerklub, B-Funk and Marlon Beatt the list of guests offer you lots of more treats and a juicy afterhour. But the icing on the cake will probably be the Awesome Supershow by Schlechtest Boy Alive, Sick Sinus & Leo Diamond at the Latrine floor and fiery-red burlesque show of La Rubinia.

Awesome’s 1st anniversary at Villa

03:23 PM

Sure, for most parties the earliest editions have always been the best and most legendary, but sometimes there’s a party like a good wine: With the time passing and more and more new editions coming it gets even better and better. So when we clapped Swedish-German Awesome Agency on their backs for putting together one of their best, if not the best line-up for the February edition of their Awesome nightout (with Mama,KingdomHannah Holland&MeBodi BillDaniel HaaksmanDJ Wool and more) just one month ago, we see ourselves forced to correct us once again. Oh, (night)life is so fast moving nowadays … (yeah!)

For the Awesome March edition on this Saturday at Villa, Berlin, too, which marks the first anniversary of the night(!), an even heavier line-up got announced! The boys invited Swedish-British (relation 1:3) producer, singer and rapper Goldie Locks to perform live on stage following the current issue of the night “How to get your freak on?“. Aged just 16 she left the school and now it’s people like our friends from Puregroove or Marc Jacobs, who picked one of her songs for a catwalk soundtrack, who help her to gain an international foothold. And according to what we can listen to on her new I’m Not her EP with the song “Cold Sweat“, released by New York’s Instinct Records, things are going really well.

Expect a brilliant club set with an edge by Discobelle and Discodust‘s favourites Sharkslayer afterwards, who made their dance floor breakthrough in 2009 with one great remix after the other, solid quality work, an unbelievable to mad diversity of styles (often mixed into one single song) concurrent to a fine taste and a good sense of humor.

Another highlight will be the set by British Exil-Berliner Paul Rose alias Scuba. Being the promoter of the quarterly dubstep night Sub:Stance Berghain he recently still found enough time to create the first compilation for the night, produce his second album Triangulation, which will be out on March 22 and launch another quarterly party with his own label Hotflush Recordings bringing the (in)famous Killasan soundsystem to Horst Kreuzberg. No wonder that Saturday night will mark one out of only three live appearances by him in his home Berlin during this spring and it will surely be the cosiest and most intimate (not to mention, sweaty) one of all three.

New York’s house majestro Sean “Cobra” Krames will have an unlikely longer journey to Villa but we have no doubt that the DJ, who should be famous for his perfect growth of beard and hair (check his Myspace profile pic!) as well, will be another audiovisual schmankerl (delicacy).

In addition to the already mentioned ones Boysnoize Records’ Chris de Luca (this time without his beloved DJ Phono), keinemusik’s long runner Rampa, Bachstelzen glitter boy David Dorad and, to assure that the night goes ahead, Awesome’s Leo Diamond himself will do the honors.

And since we don’t want to party alone with this great people we give away 4×2 guest list entries to everyone, who leaves an awesome comment under this post. The sweep has ended. See you at Villa!
