Berlin: Fashionweek Partyguide 2011

06:30 PM

Wait, it’s already the time of the Fashionweek, Bread & Butter and so on again? Once more having to share the Berlin nightlife with beautiful models and well-dressed fashion journalists? Once more enjoying the additional cultural adventures around the tam-tam of colour, cut and style? Count us in! And while we list you all the decent events of the week below, we of course want to guide you to the dear following sites for more professional views and critics on actual fashion and textiles: DERZEIT, Flannel Apparel, iHeartBerlin, i-ref, Les Mads, and Stil in Berlin – inform yourselves!

City Slang’s new band Wye Oak is presenting its third and new album Civilian for free and intimately at the Michelbergerhotel; ideally it will sound like this (and that should be really good) – 7.30 pm

At .HBC weekly event series Cinema will turn into the official Fashion Week Opening Party of DERZEIT with the charming host trios of Glamcanyon, Svenster and Elizafoxx welcoming guest-DJs Bonnie Strange and Willy Wonka – 10 pm

But cherished and praised DJ Hugo Capablanca will head to Torstraße to spin some tunes at Neue Odessa Bar instead.

And since rock music is always… er… totally in, the list wouldn’t be complete without JEFF the Brotherhood. Eventually as a guitar-drummer duo the Orrall brothers have exactly the perfect size for West Germany’s small and shaky tage – 9 pm (doors)

From today to Sunday Civilist at Brunnenstrasse 13 offers you a space to relax from the fashion trouble and warm-up for the night with the DJs of keinemusik – every day from 5 to 10 pm

The Projekt Galerie invites everyone to their own FW opening party at .HBC and the Blind Date Swingers Club is among the cooperation partners – 7 pm, free entrance

The Whitest Boy Alive play a little gig at Festsaal Kreuzberg, but apparently that’s too small and hence already sold out. You should still find some tickets, though – 10 pm (start)

Los Massieras will appear live at the Bread & Butter stand of Diesel around 8 pm, afterwards it’s then time for Banamania at the King Size Bar, where T.Keeler and Valentino will join.

This beautiful women has an as beautiful voice, too, and will present her debut album not on the catwalk, but at KulturKaufhaus Dussmann: British newcomer Anna Calvin plays a free gig – 7 pm

Also solo for one night is Hercules and Love Affair‘s Andy Butler, who will deejay at Asphalt, supported by the guys of Remmidemmi, Veltenmeyer and live act Hypnotic Lights – 10 pm

Radio brings Onkel Bernie (live), Graf Zafula and (for the electronic dessert) Rampa and Adam Port of keinemusik – the latter recently joint forces with Ruede Hagelstein – at SO36 – 10 pm

No Fashionweek without a Broken Hearts Club: The stylish globetrotters booked Mark Seven, Kaos (Italians Do It Better!, DFA) and Hugo Capablanca for a spectacular night of ‘hysteric glamour’ (that’s the dresscode) at Ballhaus Berlin – 10 pm

Nhan Solo, Ante Perry, Acidkid Daniel Dexter and Giampiero will deejay for WeSC  at the nhow-Hotel at Stralauer Allee; free entrance – 10 pm

Live act Return To Zero plus DJs Emile Doesn’t Drive and Franz Scala at Soju Bar- 11 pm

Friday night is concert night and there’s no better event than Introducing at Magnet: With Crystal Fighters (the beautiful people from above) and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs there’s not only one of the best live acts we know, but also one of our most cherished and talented young producers on the bill. Furthermore there will be the also British Minnaars plus DJ sets by Karrera Klub and Trashpop – 1o pm

The Sounds have the charming Maja Ivarsson as singer and with Crossing The Rubicon a quite good album. You can watch both live in action together with label colleagues The Blood Arm and Eight Legs at Snowhite Music Night at Postbahnhof auf – 10 pm (start)

Villa will party the extraordinary amount of three days and nights through. Sadly, that’s not for a nice reason, since the terrain will be sold to build some new mall, hipster estate or whatever. Of course that needs a few more acts to fill the weekend and you can find them ALL here. Among others, the dear Tricus & Gold, Jake the Rapper, Funkenstrøm, die Gebrüder Teichmann feat. Raumagent, Oliver $, Shir Khan, David Dorad, Das Christl, Robosonic, Basteroid, DJ Wool, Der E-Kreisel, Full Nelson, Mutlu, Leo Diamond will be among them, so it’s going to be dancing with old friends and tears in one’s eyes (Hi, Ultravox!).

Ed Banger boss Busy P and Hugo Capablanca will deejay for Marshall Headphones at the Weinmeister Hotel – 7 pm; invite only (Write Hugo a kind mail!)

Capablanca can also been seen behind the decks of the Illusion Institute at Bar Tausend with Christian d’Or (the “disco prince of Denmark”) later that night.

Achtung magazine and Get Physical await you together with Patrick Bodmer of M.A.N.D.Y., Fetisch & Kaos, Siopis, Niki Paul of the Broken Hearts Club and no less than professional fashion provacteur  and semi-professional DJ Patrick Mohr at Cookies – 11 pm

Munich : on3 Festival : Photos

08:00 AM

The scene among (Bavarian) friends: Two weeks ago, Munich welcomed an illustrious regiment of national and international acts (albeit less than last year) to another issue of local youth radio station on3’s annual festival, offering a bright day and night programme. Photographer Fay Nolan was there for us and got back with some as atmospheric shots of Born Ruffians, Roman Fischer, Kele and Crystal Fighters – see them all below.

Fitting (German) reviews of the event can be found on Rote Raupe and das clienicum and on3 themselves put a live video of every appearance on their site.

Crystal Fighters : Follow x Swallow (Videos)

Crystal Fighters : Swallow (Video)

Already on Otober 4 Stars of Love, Crystal Fighters‘ debut album, was released on their own Zirkulo Records Label (see for a complete stream of the record below). Now, on the month’s 25th double-A-side single Follow / Swallow will … er … follow. If taken as representative songs for the Spaniards in British exile’s sound the two of them do a pretty great job, being highly energetic, diverse and a bit of hectic at the same time. Furthermore, on “Swallow” we can hear serrating dubstep beat á la Skream merging into the typical CF sound dualism. And consequently there are two new videos now.

Directors Ian Pons Jewell and Tobias Stretch have both set the music’s character into motion correspondingly. While Pons Jewell, who’s of Spanish origin, too, finds the genuine ecstasy in a flickering trip-gone-wrong capture of a young video for “Swallow” (watch above), Stretch stages a surrealistic chase with an alike epileptic stop-motion picture stream full of stylised (Basque) folkloric elements for “Follow” (watch below).

Please, see the current tour dates at the bottom.

Crystal Fighters “I Love London”

08:22 PM

crystal fighters I love london

If you know London-based Crystal Fighters - and you should since it was lately really hard to ignore them – you surely know their electronic hymn on their new hometown simply called “I Love London”. The song has been around for quite a while and will now finally get put out as a single on Kitsuné on November 30.

It will feature a bunch of delicious remixes made by n Flagranti, Qoso, Lorcan Mak, 80kidz, Delta Heavy, Matt Walsh & Alex Jones, and Brackles. Go on big stereo to download the 80kidz one.

In addition the band let Martin Zähringer (previously worked with Busy P) made this both super cheap and super funny video, watch below.

Crystal Fighters will celebrate the release tonight at London’s Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen where the Levi’s Ones To Watch party takes place. You shouldn’t miss it.

Buraka Som Sistema & Crystal Fighters

01:22 PM

buraka som sistema

If this here doesn’t perfectly fit together, which other line-up does? Buraka Som Sistema (photo) and Crystal Fighters will play a club night together on Friday, October 6th, at Club Berlin at WMF. For our beloved Crystal Fighters it’s one stop of there first ever German tour but Buraka Som Sistema wet us in sweat a couple of times this year – and if they toured the world anywhere else they left us a fantastic mixtape which we kept listening til now on heavy rotation.

To make things clear: Crystal Fighters are a Spanish-British-US-American band from London, UK, sounding like a group of village inhabitants somewhere far away from civilization in the Basque Country who had been given not only some synthesizers and some bottles of vine but also some hard drugs. At the same time Portuguese-Angolan project Buraka Som Sistema celebrates the genre Kuduro that impulsive and powerful, one could guess they do not only want to establish their style in the world but make it’s the world leading genre .

Do we still need to mention that CLP, Edu K, COOP, Dennis RatzlaffF plus A Team and Marlon Beatt are ready to be the perfect surrounding DJ line-up to make this date obligatory to go for you? By the way: Crystal Fighters are presented by Spex, Buraka Som Sistema by Melt! Booking - if you don’t trust us, trust them!

Vice Presents w The Bronx, Crystal Fighters

07:05 PM

the bronx

We don’t know, why Vice UK is still hyping supporting Little Boots after she showed her true face on her album (or did they stop?), but that doesn’t mean that those guys and girls have forget how to put together some of the best events in London. So grab your personal calendar and make a fat red cross on August, the 22nd, since Vice is running another great night then.

This time at Shoreditch’s Village Underground The Bronx will headline the night with their only non-festival UK show for the summer. The Californian punk heroes too will appear a second time on stage that night and exclusively present their Latin alter ego Marachi El Bronx live. As I wrote: exclusively!

Our favorite London based band of the moment, fieve-piece Crystal Fighters, will play to. Someone stupidly labeled their music ‘Basquetronic” but it sounds a milion times better than that and at least that US-American-British-Spanish collaboration finally found some in a way new kind of music (which’s put out on Kitsuné). According to our London photographer Anna they’re the best live band around in town at the moment, so go there!

You’ll also bang your heads off with Leed’s Pulled Apart By Horses and dance you shoes ensanguined when Lovefoxx (CSS), The Big Pink and many more enter the DJ decks afterwards. If you don’t want to pay for everything you should check their Facebook page for some sweeps.

The 1-2-3-4 Festival review

02:09 PM

1234 preview

A festival which leaves your photographer with swine flu can’t sadly be the best festival of all times. And like our friend ANNA FERRARO this years 1-2-3-4 Festival at Shoreditch Park, London, had to suffer some struggles, too. To name the main issues: The wheather was unsteady like a 13-year-old, the running order turned into a lottery and Shoreditch Park, which by the way is the place where Englands grey industrial tenements meet Londons poor art scene, was full of boring people thinking posing around is the new dancing.

But every concert Anna caught by luck was great. So have a look on Autokratz smashing the crowd, Ulterior presenting their leather fetish once more, Crystal Fighters’ Sebastian letting Andrew VanWyngarden look like an office worker next to him and many more pics. Don’t miss the unknown dog pictured above, who was something like the secret icon of the festival. See all of Anna’s photos at her Flickr page.
