Live : Melt! Picknick

11:33 AM

Bad news for all yet non-ticketholders: this year’s Melt! Festival (July 15 to 17) is already sold out (only a few and special passes can be bought here according to the festival team). If you still want to experience a great dance at the fantastic festival area of the Ferropolis (or just want to warm-up for the actual festival as planned) you still get the chance to do so on this Sunday. Then the second Melt! Picknick, as the Melt! Weekender an official pre-party for the big summer weekend, will take place near Gräfenhainichen.

This year’s curator is an old friend of Melt! and long-term collaborator. So for instance Alex Ridha alias Boys Noize’ gig with his friend Erol Alkan at Melt! 2009 is still unforgotten. Now the Berlin-based producer and DJ has again invited his British mate plus other well-known acts and creative partners such as Tiga, Djedjotronic and Jan Driver to the former Anhalt open-face mine. Alkan will also bring his New Zealand Phantasy label artist Connan Mockasin with, who’s one of the last real weirdos in the game and the creator of the beautifully pop music re-creating Please Turn Me Into The Snat. In terms of stylistic diversity he can also compete with Nottingham’s Lone, although the latter is rather coming from the electronic corner of modern music.

We recommend: Boys Noize, Mr Oizo

10:30 AM

He’s collaborating with the likes of the Black Eyed Peas, Erol Alkan and Gonzales, his own label is hosting festival stages and parties all over the world and with his second full-length Power, he not only managed to emancipate himself from the common nu-rave/electro-hype mantra, but reintroduced a new, almost conceptional approach towards beats to disco. German 26-year-old Alex Ridha alias Boys Noize might be truly gifted as a producer and label head, but has also always stayed loyal and true to his home-of-choice, Berlin – like when he spontaneously showed up for a small dj set at the recent Boysnoize Records / Institubes night at Villa and then left the party again, totally unrecognized by the long queue in front of the door, which he passed.

So after the by-now legendary, boundary-breaking first Boys Noize Records Party at Ritter Butzke anno 2008, Alex and his crew are returning to Kreuzberg for another, exclusive Boysnoize Records & COOP present party along with some very good, old friends – like French, super class producer Mr Oizo, who’s currently riding the headlines with his just Cannes-premiered, self-directed movie Rubber (2010) about a murderous tire (sic!) rather with his electro hits – from his 1999 super hit “Flat Beat” to his current, razor-sharp third studio  album and debut to Ed Banger records, Lambs Anger, which like “Flat Beat” is still vibrantly pulsating through our heads anyway.

Next artist on the bill is Djedjotronic, another French wunderkind, this time in service of Boysnoize Records themselves. After discovering electronica through labels like Warp and UR about a decade ago and spending numerous nights of creating a new, unique sound, which finally became manifest on his Dirty and Hard EP are proof to that. Now he’s touring the global club scene again with a mix between dirty industrial beats, rough techno sound and happy-go-lucky electro.

Dennis Ratzlaff, Sascha Scotti, Jan Driver, Dirty Döring (Bar25) and well-known, reputable DJ Lexy (without his K-Paul) will complete the two-floor line-up. See for time tables, location and tickets below and leave us a comment to win one out of two tickets we’re giving away for this huge nightout!
