Jamie xx : Far Nearer (Single)

12:16 PM

Since today Far Nearer the actual debut solo single by Jamie xx, the beat genius behind The XX and collaborator of the sadly recently passed away Gil Scott-Heron, is out via Numbers. Premiered already about nine months ago, the sweet title track now comes with its own website and contrarily darker B-side “Beat For”, which is even a bit rave-flavoured.

Jamie Smith can be heard on the label’s show tomorrow. He will also spend the summer playing festivals such as Glastonbury, Field Day, Øyafestivalen or Germany’s Open Source and awake Summer Break.

We Recommend: Field Day Festival

12:50 PM

If there’s one thing that Berlin could learn from London, than it’s surely about inner-city festivals. Of course the Germans enjoy great events like club transmediale or the Berlin Festival, but yet in terms of both, quality and quantity, no Berliner had the idea to put on such an insanely well selected one-day festival like Field Day. So one week after the 1-2-3-4 and already two weeks after Lovebox the July festival euphoria will climax on this Saturday at the Victoria Park.

And it looks like you could get everything you want on of the all in all six stages. Want to see the biggest French non-electro act since Serge Gainsbourg? They have Phoenix (photo above) for you. A Swedish shaman performing one of the best, most conceived live shows of our times? Fever Ray has returned. The creme de la creme of the vibrant German electro scene? Modeselektor and Apparat unite under the moniker Moderat and will – along with Hendrik Weber alias Pantha Du Prince and Mouse on Mars – bring some tricky to progressive, mind breaking and high-class (techno) sounds to London. And what about an official Guinness World Record holder? The piano genius that is Chilly Gonzales will be at your service.

But of course there are quite a few British acts booked as well. The old hands of the Fall (We’re wondering if Mark will have another meet’n’greet with his old Von-Südenfed-fellows of Mouse on Mars?) and Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) will meet the current scene leaders Simian Mobile Disco, These New Puritans and Lightspeed Champion, while producer Matthew Herbert brings his own One Club with him (which means, he will play his new record live on stage). The class-of-2009/10 will be represented by Is Tropical, Egyptian Hip Hop, Yuck, Hounds Of Hate and Esben And The Witch. Too, the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Dam Mantle, Fake Blood, James Holden, Joker, Hudson Mohawke, Night Slugs and -of course – our favourites Gold Panda, Walls and Mount Kimbie will guarantee a very diverse British dance fest.

Last but not least some transatlantic sonic jewels like Caribou (Well, actually Daniel is living in London at the moment.), Holly Miranda, No Age, The Golden Filter and Memory Tapes will make their way to the city’s North-East. And there are still more artists left so, please, see the complete line-up (sorted by the six stages) plus further information below. Guess, we need a clone machine now.
