Berlin : Friendly Fires live

12:34 AM

A bit short termed, yes, but if you are in Berlin on Thursday your by now already quite spoiled ears will get another live pleasure:  The dear Friendly Fires return to Berlin to play a gig with great local support act Grey Television.

The Brits are just about to release their new and second album Pala (out May 16 via XL Recordings). And first foretaste “Live Those Days Tonight” already showcases everything again, what turned this act huge: exuberant electronica with singer Ed Macfarlane bending his voice around the rave reminiscences like a yoga teacher. And we all know, that they are an even better live band since their appearances at MELT! Festival 2008 and 2010 or in Berlin live with the Foals.

Finding German music TV icon Markus Kavka and Foals singer Yannis Philippakis among their fans, it’s safe to say, that Grey Television won’t fill their support slots for very long, but take over the main part soon. But you better find out yourselves, why that is.

You can still get your tickets for the gig at Postbahnhof for instance via Eventim. Afterwards, FF drummer Jack Savidge will also deejay at the very fancy Broken Hearts Club party.

New Friendly Fires Video for KoL

12:11 PM

friendly fires kiss of live

The video for “Kiss of Life”, the new Friendly Fires single to be released on the 31st of August, had it’s web premier today. Definitely to be attempted as one of this year’s most beautiful clips you can see the trio dancing on a perfect beach on a perfect sunny day. Sounds like I parfume ad but singer Ed Macfarlane keeps his shirt on the whole time (sorry, folks!). Actually I’m wondering how often he had to change his shirt or what deodorant he does use, since there’s magically no single sweat stain on his clothes.

Anyway, the song itself is one more brilliant liquid synth pop diamant casted into four minutes with a flavor of some Afro beat, that grows from listening to listening. If you watch the video below you’ll see a drum group with Venecian mask (The Knife have found their soulmates) in it, so in this great puzzle everything fits together.

Lovebox Festival at Victoria Park London

A heart, a fist, a diamond and a drum – these are the relics of this year’s Lovebox Festival in the center of London. Better said: This festival is dedicated to “Heart, Soul, Rock’n’Roll” and nothing else.

The 2008’s UK Festival Awards “Best Medium Sized Festival” award winning event has set up up a huge line-up for 2009 lead by 80ies icons Duran Duran and Gang Of Four on the way to Victoria Park, London.

To this a broad and diverese programe will open the spheres between N.E.R.D.‘s playful hip hop and melancholic guitar pop act Doves. Weird and awesome perfomances can furthermore be expected from proto glam rockers New York Dolls and another 80ies icon Gary Numan.

Current aufgemischt! staff’s darlings like Friendly Fires, Kitsunés Chew Lips or Lightspeed Champion are as well featured as the wonderful Fontän from Sweden. Florence & The Machines, Ladyhawke plus Au Revoir Simone will guarantee you a load of on-stage girl power.

drums of death by MaliaJames

But our personal not-to-miss recommendation is anyway Greco-Roman’s finest Drums of Death. In addition the sets of Groove Armada, Diplo, Hercules & Love Affair’s Andy Butler, The Twelves and of course Simian Mobile Disco will too turn Lovebox into a brilliant electro festival.
