Melt! Festival 2010

02:26 AM

As already in the year of  2009 we presented you the most important and current information directly from the Melt!-Festival. 2010 the line up also promised a lot of good music and fulfilled all expectations and even more than that.  From punk sounds with Fucked Up or The Big Pink to electronic music à la Hercules and Love Affair and DJ Shadow the weekend was rich of musical highlights. This gallery will take you on a short tour through all days and stages at the Melt!.

We recommend: 1-2-3-4 Festival

05:10 AM

Looks like all this swine flu hysteria happened already almost a year ago. At least, we are pretty sure it did, since Anna heroically send us these cool photos from London’s 1-2-3-4 Festival from her sick-bed after catching the damn flu on the festival’s 2009 issue. You see, not everything was hysteria only. Anyway, lucky you will have no need to fear the flu at 1234 this year, but maybe you should be aware that your head could may explode, when you have to decide between the four stages at Shoreditch Park on July 23, curated by Sean McLusky.

For instance Canada’s (or the even world’s?) best and friendliest hardcore band, Fucked Up, will appear live with über charismatic singer Father Damian, who just left a totally non-hardcore crowd at Melt! Festival both, amazed and destroyed (see photo above, interview will be up soon). Too, Wavves will bring their new, even-better album King of the Beach live on stage.

But hey, there are some old heroes in the game as well: Peter Hook off New Order and Joy Division fame will perform the entire monolithic, dark beauty that is the latter’s debut album Unknown Pleasure live – more than 31 years after its release. Sex-Pistols-inspired, second (early) punk wave heroes Vic Godard and the Subway Sect are as well on board as original Pistols-member Glen Matlock, who will play together some of his very (old) favourites together with Bobby Gillespie, Andrew Innes (bothPrimal Scream), , Barrie Cadogan (Little Barrie/Primal Scream) and Zak Starkey (The Who) in the super star cover band The Silver Machine.

Legends-in-the-making These New Puritans will headline stage number two, the Now Music Stage, leading quite a bunch of talented, young UK acts like Rolo Tomassi, INVASION, A Grave With No Name, S.C.U.M, Comanechi, The Ruling Class spread all other the festival – some of them with their second albums already out in the ether, other’s still working on their debut. All girl power can be expected from the great likes of Vivian Girls, Veronica Falls, Dum Dum Girls and yeah, No Bra

Too, an autoKratz DJ set, We Have Band, Brackles, Drop The Lime, Nuke Them ALL (in the backstage) and of course the fastest rising star of the last season, Toddla T (with MC Serocee), and the veteran maestros off Optimo will take care of your dancing feets. And from about 10 pm on there will no less than 14 (!) aftershow parties in clubs venues like the Rivington Street warehouse (the official AP hosted Dollop and the 1234), The Old Blue Last or Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen. Check them all here.
