HEALTH ‘Disco2′ out in June

05:27 PM

It has been an open secret for quite a while now but today the dear City Slang confirmed that HEALTH will release the second issue of their ‘remix disco series’ with Disco2 this summer. The LP will of course feature numerous remixes of tracks from the band’s last year’s stunning Get Color album and with CFCF and Pictureplane to remixers from the first HEALTH/DISCO LP are on board again joining a list of some of the hottest rising talents across the globe including Small Black, Javelin (both Brooklyn-NYC), the fantastic and mysterious Salem, British electronic favourite Gold Panda and Tobacco (Tom Fec from Black Moth Super Rainbow) among others.

Too, HEALTH got not only together with the infamous Crystal Castles for another remix (of “Eat Flesh”) after the surprising success of the CC’s Crimewave-re-edit, but went to studio with legendary producer Alan Moulder, who produced U2’s Pop as well as albums for the likes of Jesus and the Mary Chain, Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins. The result is the new HEALTH single “USA Boys”, which will open Disco2. See the complete tracklisting, two downloads and release dates below:

We recommend: Caribou on tour

08:20 PM

A noise, a synthesizer sound like a primal scream from the jungle and a nonchalantly played funk riff void of bromides and to which a voice carefully clings: The song “Odessa” by Caribou could have barely sound more different from the Ukrainian city of the same name, which the poet Pushkin once praised back in the 19th century and has been constantly in decline since then.

Daniel Snaith, the man behind this beautiful piece, has definitely created one of the new year’s first masterpieces here and if you haven’t downloaded it (for free) yet, you catch up on this now here.

Of course “Odessa” is only the precursor for Snaith’s upcoming fifth studio album Swim (first two were released under his former alias Manitoba), which will be put out by Merge Records (North America) on April 20 and by City Slang (rest of the world) on April 19. And if we can believe “Odessa” it will be a bit more danceable than the previous (too, great) Andorra from 2007.

So when the record comes out Caribou will have to fulfill their duties and bring all their fans in Europe live in concert. This time Snaith, who’s done a Ph.D. in mathematics and did re-name the project on/ after a LSD trip, will be joined by Ryan Smith, Brad Weber and John Schmersal as live band members on stage, touring with them and the fabulous Gold Panda as support through the UK, the Benelux states, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Denmark.

Snaith will also deejay this Thursday, February 11, at The Macbeth, London, co-presented by our friends over at TLOBF and the next day in the same city at The Dome supporting Four Tet and Joy Orbison (show is sadly already sold out). In return Four Tet will deejay as support at the Caribou Corsica Studios gig in London on April 20, which will also be supported by Hounds of Hate.

Too, Caribou will appear with Phoenix, Pantha du Prince, Memory Tapes, Mouse on Mars and more at Field Day 2010 on July 31 after the tour.
