September erscheinenden A Meaning EP des New Yorkers Braille erscheinen wird. Ein schöner Synergieeffekt, handelt es sich beim veröffentlichenden Label doch eben um Roses Hotflush.

Die nächste Ausgabe von Sub:stance im Berghain steht unterdessen am 7. Oktober an. Diesmal gesellen sich zu Rose u.a. Adrian Sherwood, Martyn und Untold.

Mount Kimbie : Free track “Brave’s Chords” from new EP Carbonated

05:04 PM

The by us recommended tour has already begun, but now Hotflush has announced the last release from Mount Kimbie‘s debut album Crooks & Lovers. New EP Carbonated will be out on June 27 and feature besides the original album track and its remixes by Peter Van Hoesen and Airhead, its forerunner on the LP, the short intermezzo “Adriatic”, in a remix version by Klaus plus two previously unreleased tracks.

While “Flux” was created during the C&L recording process, “Bave’s Chords” is a little charming find from the time around their 2009 breakthrough song “Maybes”. The latter was part of the bands recent intense but slightly weird performance in front of a silent crowd with headphones on for Abbey Road Debuts, which you can watch over at Dummy. You can download “Bave’s Chords” for an E-mail address below.

Mount Kimbie : Ruby (live at Berghain)

12:38 AM

Not only we think, that Mount Kimbie can create transcendental moments at minute intervals when it comes to live shows. One of their biggest of such was surely their appearance at Berlin’s Berghain in July for the 2nd anniversary of Sub:stance, the dubstep night by their Hotflush label head Scuba. Fortunately this gig was preserved to be delivered to posterity (yes, we do think this music should and can still be listened to in 50 years or so) and gets released bit-by-bit now.

So Hotflush will use November to bring us the new Mount Kimbie EP Blind Night Errand, which – besides the title track, a second song from the album Crooks & Lovers called “Before I Move Off” and a Dayglo remix of “William” (the original was featured on the very first EP Maybes anno 2009) – includes a live recording of the hit “Maybes” straight out of the Berghain. Too, a second piece from this session, the mind-twisting “Ruby”, is offered as a free bonus track (see below for download, please). The entire EP is streamed over at FACT here until next Tuesday.

On the same day as the release Mount Kimbie will support Caribou live in Cologne, only one out of 29 gigs left for 2010, taking the band from the UK to Norway, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and back. Please, find all dates at the bottom.

We recommend: Mount Kimbie

11:36 PM

When we saw Mount Kimbie live for the first time, earlier this year at Berlin’s ctm.10, we did have a bit of-a hard time accessing their show in the beginning, unable to find the right link between the huge advance praise and the intimate, modest set they put on. A summer full of more live dates – with appearances at Fabric and Berghain among them – and one, eleven-song-strong album of rare beauty later, all doubts blown in the wind.

So if the London-Brighton duo now has the chance to present Crooks & Lovers (released by Scuba‘s Hotflush Recordings) to a hype-affine German crowd as The XX‘ support act, before playing Offset Festival in September and a another proper UK tour in October, that’s truly great news. Since no one should miss this diffuse, but harmonious and hence even greater interaction between mainly dubstep, ambient beats of all shades and fragmental guitar and voice samples – see all dates at this article’s end.

Scuba “Before”

02:05 PM

It’s a foretaste for his new album Triangulation and it tastes sounds really good: while director Sam Geer visually comes up with some well-tried pictures, Paul Rose aka Scuba sends out fantastic new track called “Before”. Very atmospheric and featuring some great percussion samples the track ideal for early morning trances on the dance floor.

Triangulation is the second album of Scuba and will be released on March 22 via his own Hotflush Recordings label. It’s a really auspicious record, which you can pre-listen to in its entirety over at 3 voor 12. Too, the man behind Berghain’s quarterly dubstep night Sub:Stance will play one of his sets tonight at Villa, Berlin, at the 1st anniversary of Awesome. You can still win tickets for it here.

UPDATE Dates for New Joy Orbison EP & Ikonika Album

02:02 AM

joy orbison

News from Britain’s dubstep scene: After Joy Orbison created a pretty healthy hype with singles like Hyph Mango on Hotflush Recordings and BRKLN CLLN on his own Doldrums in 2009, his next release – and first in 2010 – is awaiting us. Simple Records announced the The Shrew EP for February 2010. JO therefor put the two new tracks “The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow” and “So Derobe” together with a Neu Haus So-Glo mix of the first by Actress and luckily the label is currently streaming all of them completely on their site for preview. Rating: Well served late night stories with some delicious sweet extra fruits. On February 5 Orbison will then play with the same Actress plus Moodyman and Will Bankhead at Berlin’s Berghain. [via]

Elsewhere Orbison’s dubstep fellow Ikonika is already working on her debut album on Hyperdub. Like it looks now this will still need some time til the final date so we have to be patient. In the meantime a constructive remedy could be this brand new mix, Ikonika did for a fashion brand. The mix was taken down from the Mixcloud site. And btw: She’s coming to Germany to, playing in Aachen this Saturday, January 16. (In case you prefer to explore the reunion of nu-disco and rock’n’roll when listening to a new mix, we would like to recommend you this new Tiedye mix we have up on our sleeve  instead. Best choice of course would be to listen to both of them though.) [via]

Update (original article from Jan 13, 2010, 8:31 am): That’s two great new! Ikonika’s highly anticipated album will be called Contact, Love, Want, Have and released as HBDC004 on April 6 via Hyperdub. See the beautiful cover below:

ikonika contact love want have

And there’s something going on with Joy Orbison’s The Shrew EP, too. The website of Rough Trade Shop added the 22nd of February March 1st (Effective: 26/02/2010) as expected in-stock date to their The Shrew EP shop entry. To bridge the gap of time til then have a listen to another fine remix of “Brklyn Clln”, this time created by Ghostly International‘s Michna. Click-right here to download the song.

And if you are still longing for more dubstep, let Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke convince you that you share the same taste. Listen to a very interesting Show he’s done with radio host Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 1.
