Hurricane Festival 2010

12:50 PM

It seems that the booking team of the Hurricane Festival, taking place from June 18 to 20 at Scheeßel, Germany, have done their homework. While many festivals start to announce the first bands during the last weeks, the organisators of the Hurricane have already presented a lot of bands since the beginning of 2010.

Looking at the accredited bands you’ll recognize the variety of musical genres: they range from alternative-rock over electro music to soft synthie- and guitar pop. But most of the bands have one similarity: they played a sold out concert in germany last year. Consequently the hosts can be sure that the festival would be sold out, too. On the other hand, there is also an adavantage for the fans: Those who could not see the concert of their favourite bands have new chance to watch them.

Definitely, The Strokes are the first highlight of the line up list. Already last year the New Yorkers announced a new album for late 2010, but disappointed many fans because the members applied themselves to their solo projects. Fortunately now the fans don’t have to wait any longer. The band works currently on their new record and will surely present some new songs at the Hurricane.  Of course we hope that the performance will be as powerful as in 2006, when Julian Casablancas destroyed a camera on the stage (watch below from 0:52 min on).

Another crowd puller are the Beatsteaks. The German rock band will return on stage this summer. Additionally, the re-united Stone Temple Pilots will perform at the festival. And because we are talking about well-tried bands you can mention that more war horses of the music business are going to play: electro-punker The Prodigy, the two trip hop bands Faithless and Massive Attack, riot-Hamburger Deichkind and Sweden-combo Mando Diao. In contrast to the electric and heavy bands Jack Johnson, who’s been acting in the music business for a long time as well, appears almost like an alien element. Likewise German band Element of Crime is still running on adrenalin and must not miss at any festival today. As always Sven Regner and his band will guarantee a big portion of romanticism.

If you look a little bit down the line-up list, you will find many newcomer of the last year and the music is getting a bit softer and calmer. On of the rediscovery of the last year is The XX. The London three-piece does inspire many people with their melancholic synthie tunes and recently played even three sold out concerts in Berlin. Phoenix, post punk band White Lies, wonder women Florence and the Machine and La Roux with her sweet-pop represent further newcomer band at Hurricane. The boys of Two Door Cinema Club, who will release their second album soon, are a current insiders’ tip. Furthermore the Shout Out Louds will present their new album Work at the festival. Too, Boys Noize and Does it offend you, yeah? will guarantee strong electric tunes and German Audiolith Label is involved with Frittenbude.

The three-day tickets for the festival in Scheeßel cost € 120. Those who will arrive with a caravan have to pay additional € 20 for a camper badge. You can find further information on the festival-website.

If you live in the South of Germany you can visit Hurricane’s sister festival, the Southside Festival, in Neuhausen ob Eck. It takes place at the same weekend and has the identical line-up.

UPDATE: Today the Hurricane promoters confirmed more bands once again. And they couldn’t have been more different at all. On the one hand there’re Vampire Weekend. The New Yorkers provide a mix from pop, alternative and African rhythms for a big good mood soundtrack with their current and second album Contra. Bonaparte and Timid Tiger will also be out for as much fun. The boys of We Are Scientists present a considerably more like rock sounding music and with the Deftones for rather harder minds and Ska legends The Specials, the Huricane bookers have brought another two warhorses of the music business on board.

UPDATE 2: There will be a new stage at the this year. Until now Mr. Oizo, The Bloody Beetroots Deathcrew 77, Erol Alkan, Bratze and FM Belfast comfirmed their live performances. Besides the festival promoters announced some further acts, f.i. Biffy Clyro, for the other stages. You can find the complete line-up below.

Darker My Love join White Lies

01:52 PM

My Darker Love im Dunkeln und nur zu viert (c) Heather Culp

Let’s get together: psychedelic rock band Darker My Love will support one of the last great hype bands of this decade and will surely open the a little bit monotonous sound of White Lies. This means that hipster area Silverlake/L.A. meets London’s green suburb hell Ealing for four nights of melancholy and moll accords.

The discovery of White Lies, pushed by their major label Universal, filled the music press’ headlines last winter. Now the time for the band has come to show that they are ready to emancipate themselves from all the comparisons with Editors, who too will come back to Germany this fall.

The situation for Darker My Love is way different (see picture above): the US-band and their singer Tim Presley (former member of The Nerve Agents, The Fall, Maps) released their second album “2” with a delay of one year in Europe in 2009. But those eleven songs  turned out to be competitive in every year of rock history. To prove this their label Pias made “Talking Words” (maybe their best song) avaible for free download.

White Lies’ and Darker My Love’s Germany tour 2009:
01.11.09 Live Music Hall, Cologne
02.11.09 Uebel & Gefährlich, Hamburg
07.11.09 Astra, Berlin
09.11.09 Backstage, Munich
